Pioneering
database leads the way for local authorities
November 14, 2005
The Leadership Centre for Local Government is
spearheading a new database of suppliers of leadership development to capture the very
best practitioners in the country - making life much easier for local authorities when
they buy in services.
The centre is currently trawling the country for
all suppliers of leadership development in order to produce a comprehensive list of
organisations or individuals who develop leadership at senior political and managerial
level.
Local authorities are also being canvassed to
share their valuable experience of using these organisations in order to create a database
that is genuinely an asset to them.
The comprehensive UK resource will then be made
available to local authorities free of charge for them to consult when choosing
organisations with whom to work.
Stephen Taylor, chief executive of the Leadership
Centre, said: This exercise does two valuable things for us. It will give us an
overall database of all those out there that are delivering leadership development.
Secondly it will reveal the very best
those at the forefront of the market. It is with these people that we wish to work most
closely. These will either have a thorough insight of the sector and will be developing
new services for leadership at senior level in local government or will be at the
cutting-edge of leadership thinking.
An exercise like this hasnt been done
before and is highly likely to become a valuable asset to local authorities as it involves
their first-hand experience of working with these organisations in effect making it
a database for local authorities, created by local authorities.
The database will explain an individual or
organisations expertise and offering and come with references from within local
government.
Anyone interested in taking part in the exercise
should look for further details on the website.
The Leadership Centre has been set up specifically
to improve the leadership capacity within local government focusing on the unique working
relationship between the chief executive, leader and their corresponding senior teams.
