About the Leadership Centre for Local Government

Our customers

The Leadership Centre works with the leaders of local authorities and, where relevant, local strategic partnerships to help them develop the skills and qualities they need to be effective leaders in their communities.

The main focus of our work is with senior political and managerial leaders and we concentrate  on the critical relationship between the senior political and managerial teams – a relationship that can make or break the authority’s ability to do its job.

We are also investing in the much-neglected area of political leadership: supporting current leaders and stimulating civic engagement so that local government can attract and retain new talented leaders in the future.

A key part of our role is to urge local authorities to recognise the significant challenges of working across multi-agency partnerships and being expected to lead them. Our work with authorities will allow them to meet those challenges in the most appropriate way for their localities.
